American Society for Church Growth - Book Review

The Revival Answer Book: Rightly Discerning the Contemporary Revival Movements
Author: Michael L. Brown
Ventura, CA: Regal Books, 2001, 344 pp.

It appears that Michael L. Brown has written an apologetic book concerning revival in modern times. The question may arise why is there a need to write such a book in the first place? Revival never has been and never will be for the critic. It is for the needy, the hungry, and the one willing to hear what the Spirit is saying.

Brown mentions different people of God, used in ways that do not always fit a certain mold. Many live only in history and not in the present, much less the future. As he points out, they miss what God is doing NOW because they are unwilling to believe He does anything different from that which He has already done.

This book may not be for everyone to read, but it is for the serious minded individual who is seeking truth that is not wrapped up in a neat theological package. Brown is challenging the idea that God is in a little box, and that it is God Himself who determines what He means, what He does, and when He wants to do it. His beliefs, I believe, are based on the lasting fruits and results of a true move of God.
