The Reverend Dean G. Blevins is Associate Professor of Religion at Trevecca Nazarene University. Dr, Blevins received his Ph.D. in Personality and Theology (with an emphasis on religious education) at the Claremont School of Theology (Claremont, California). Professor Blevins, an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, has served as youth minister and minister of Christian Education in churches in North Carolina and Southern California. He is a graduate of Nazarene Theological Seminary (MRE) and currently directs associate ministry and field education (including Christian Education, Youth Ministry and Compassionate Ministry) in the Division of Religion and Philosophy at Trevecca. He is also the director of the Trevecca Center for Church and Society. Professor Blevins has published articles in Religion and Education, Youthworker Journal, The Preacher's Magazine, and Wesleyan Theological Journal.
An ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene, Dean has served as youth minister and minister of Christian Education in churches in North Carolina and Southern California. Prior to his call to ministry, Dean worked for eight years as a news photojournalist in broadcast television. Dean has worked in several diverse settings including prison outreach, working with "at-risk" youth, singles ministry, divorce recovery, and director of an inter-faith conference in Southern California. While working in academic administration, he was also adjunct faculty in Christian Education at Azusa Pacific University and he also taught graduate level courses at Claremont. In addition to teaching, Reverend Blevins has conducted workshops for national conferences for ministers in Southern California and for congregations in the Southeast.
Dean is married to JoAnn, a former medical missionary in Swaziland, Africa. Following their marriage in 1991, JoAnn has been deeply involved in local church missions in both Southern California and Tennessee. She is currently a nurse in the TNU clinic and faculty in the Physicians Assistants department. JoAnn also adjuncts courses in Public School Health as well as Missions and Evangelism at Trevecca Nazarene University. The Blevins are active church members at Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene in Nashville. |
